Garden update!

As you can see, I am not as creative as my other blogger friends. You guys can come up with the best stories and I sit here pondering for a better description of my progress, but nothing comes. So! This is me. DEAL WITH IT! :) I'm soooo kidding!

OK here is my container with spinach and some summer (heat tolerable) lettuce. The spinach looks pretty sickly but he has done so much better than the other attempts.

This is my other container-o-lettuce. More heat tolerable lettuce. I am determined to have lettuce!

Can you identify what kind of tomato plant this is? I thought it was a porter but this bloom is different than any I have seen. This is one of my hanging basket tomatoes and he has passed his basket.

These are my Tiny Tom Tomatoes that are in a hanging basket as well. Not very tiny! I do see it coming down from the weight of the tomatoes.

My main garden. Not a whole lot of difference except the massive cucumbers taking over the whole garden. MAN those things have gone nutso! They are National Pickling Cucumbers. Is this normal?

This is my corn. Woohoo! Corn!! I hope to have this for the 4th, but I dont think it will be ready. How can you tell it is ready? I checked last night if there were worms (by squeezing the ends) and I dont think there is. I was going to put mineral oil on the silks. I am hoping that will prevent them from coming in.

Here are my bush beans. Is the yellow from malnutrition (but I put liquid fertilizer...liquid Miracle grow...but I didnt see any difference) or are they about done? I do still have small beans and blooms on it.

Cucumbers take over! Run for your lives!

Miracle box. Look at those cantaloupe and watermelons go!

I assume these are female cantaloupe and watermelon right?

Onion seeds!

This tomato plant has a very odd tomato on it. It is the only tomato on it and the blooms like brown. I am assuming this is normal but is it? I assumed it was a porter tomato (because that is pretty much all I started and I obviously didnt label them good) but it just looks strange.

Massive tomato plant. It is pretty good friends with the cucumbers. I am hoping not to find a red cucumber from "cross pollinating" lol!

The "lower 40" box #1. Watermelon (which is very puny but saw new growth yesterday), Pumpkin, Sugar Baby watermelon, and more watermelon (which is puny as well but saw new growth), bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, more cantaloupe, and crockneck squash, with babies!!

I have a pumpkin!! (right? or is that just a female with a bloom fixing to open?)

This is my tomato plant that had tomatoes before any of the others. Looks like it is an Amish Paste Tomato because it is growing long instead of round.

"Lower 40" box #2. Tomato with cantaloupe behind it (I bought a bonnie pot with 8 plants in it. I couldnt just kill them! I thought they wouldnt all survive. I was wrong), my smaller tomatoes with crockneck squash behind both of them, and then you see more squash with cabbage and broccoli in front of it. I tied them up close to the trellis so they would give the cabbage and broccoli more room.

Crockneck babies! Mom is going to have to keep an eye on this (I dont like squash). I am not sure how fast they grow.

Cauliflower :) I had another one that was ravished by slugs (I think). They were green just like the plant so I didnt see them for a while. I am hoping he will recover, but I kinda doubt it.

Broccoli, which the right one has had his left leaf completely bitten off. I am assuming it is a rabbit or deer because it doesnt have holes, it is gone.

Very tiny cabbage. It hasnt done much, but I have learned, that doesn't mean much. Those are usually the ones the have growth spurts and grows bigger than the rest.

Mystery plant is growing pretty good.

My berry bushes havent grown too much so I didnt take any pictures.

This is my June 26th, harvest. It was about 1 1/2 lbs. I have sense harvested 10 1/2 lbs of cucumbers and bush beans.

Memory loss....again

I was going to take new pictures but I guess I wasn't suppose to. I was in the garden and forgot the camera. When I got it, it didn't have the memory stick in it. The memory stick was at work where I downloaded other pictures on it! WOW!

So looking through there, I found some pictures. I will take new ones this weekend because they are BIGGER than here! I never notice how much they grow until you start looking at pictures.

Planted my banana tree!

Cantaloupe and watermelon going up the trellis....they are not real happy about it.

Here are my corn tassles. They are more yellow now with pollen. And I saw SILKS!! Like 2 or 3 of them. WOOHOO!! I will get those pics up this weekend.

I found another gigantic (well, to me at least) cucumber. That is a total of 3!!! I havent weighed it yet.

God's Hand

Last night I was working on another box for the garden and suddenly there were ominous clouds blowing in. It really scared me. Then there were winds like I haven't seen in a while. Mom took her ferns in so they didnt fall off the hooks and then we took in all my hanging baskets. I prayed that God would put His had over the garden and keep it safe along with my family. There weren't any tornado warnings, but man that wind made me think one was very very close. I got up this morning to one corn stalk bending just a tad. Boy God is good.

I also went out and harvested. Got another 10 1/2 ounces of beans and another cucumber! Soon I will have enough for one jar of pickles! LOL I think my Tiny Tims are about to turn red. They are such a light green.

My upside down Porter tomato plant has grown up past the basket! He has blooms on it and I was wondering if it would come back down or will it break when the tomatoes get big?

I was able to find 3 12 inch pots to permanently plant some of my 21 tomato plants. I am planning on getting some more wood and make two 1 1/2 x 6 foot boxes for the other tomatoes. I have no idea what I am going to do with the other 6 plants but I am sure I will find something to do with them. I have 4 hanging planters but I dont know where to hang them. I have some other hooks on my awning but the tree blocks most of the 4 hours of sunlight I get there.

My banana plant is happy in the yard but when it gets hot, the leaves fall completely down. When it gets cooler, they branch out horizontal like it should normally look. I wonder if this is bad or not.

I took a picture of my harvested beans, but it looks like the picture from yesterday so I wont post it. Just in case someone has slow downloads like lookmanoweeds aka Rachel. Sorry girl!

June 21st Harvest

Well I went out this afternoon to water my babies. While watering I found THIS! A cucumber! All the ones I found were tiny but I moved a leaf and there he was! Woohoo!

The total harvest this time was 12 1/2 ounces. Little by little it is adding up!

June 19th Harvest

Hey! Harvested my beans yesterday. 13 oz!! This is my first radish. I started them about 3 weeks ago in my miracle garden. The others didn't do so well. I guess it was blocked from the sun more or something. I couldn't replant them because the watermelon is going nuts as is the cantelope. I will take a picture of it soon.

My corn has tassles on it! I guess that is what it is called. It looks like green wheat is coming out of the middle! haha I looked closer at the other corn, and about 4 others are doing the same thing. WOOHOO! Is the amount of tassles mean the number of ears of corn that I am going to have or is there some other way of knowing how many you should get (like blooms on tomatoes)?

Found my memory!

While I am still memory challenged, my camera isn't! I got to take ALL KINDS of pics today. I hope they don't shut down my blog due to too many pics! LOL

I am going to plant the strawberries that I have in containers in the window boxes and flowers the pots.

Hanging Tomato Plant June 4th

June 18th

My fruit bushes June 4th. Bottom left is my blackberries, bottom middle is my raspberries, bottom left is blueberries. Top left is blueberries and top right is raspberries. I bought a second blackberry but he died and when I took him back there weren't any. I hope I can get another one next year and this one will be fine until then.

Planted in the ground near the shed.

Blueberry bush June 18th

Blueberry bush. I found out there were 2 cut worms in this guy's soil. I think that is why he is so small. Hopefully he will be better now.

Blackberry June 18th

Raspberry June 18th

Raspberry June 18th. This one actually has raspberries on it! You can't see it in this picture though.

Where the white is, that is where I HAD raspberries. Nice pretty red ones...the birds thought so too. Left me with this.

But I do have some left! This is why I have the pinwheel, foil thingies and water all guarding them. If it happens again, I am going to have to break down and get netting.

This is my Crookneck squash June 4th.

This is it NOW!! June 18th. Of course, the trellises in the back are for it to grow on, but it is going straight up! I hope I am able to get it to crawl up the trellises but I have no idea how I am going to train it with those humongous leaves.

These are the broccoli I thought I would experiment with. I planted them around the first of June...if you look closely in the June 4th picture, you can see little green specks. That is the broccoli. I don't know if they will survive but I thought I would see how well they did just planted in the soil instead of starting them. Every one of my broccoli died and all but one cabbage died when I transplanted it.

Here are some red cabbage I am doing the same thing with.

I am not sure what this is. It doesnt look like a weed, but I cant remember what I could have planted here.

Squash June 4th

Squash June 18th

Cantelope June 18th (It was the plant to the left of the squash in the june 4th picture). I HAVE BLOOMS!! Again, not sure how I am going to get it to go up the trellise.

Tomato plants (from seeds) June 4th.

Tomato plants June 18th. I see the BIGGEST difference here!

The clay pot holds marigolds.

Tomato plant from seed June 4th.

Tomato plant from seed June 18th. I think this is a porter tomato so I should be getting big tomatoes.

I have babies!

More squash June 4th

Squash June 18th. I dont see much growth here.

Cauliflower that I bought from a nursery. I thought 4 for $1 was good. If it doesn't survive, no biggie.

Cantelope June 4th

Cantelope June 18th. Not a lot of growth, but BLOOMS!!!!!!

Pepper plants June 4th.

Bell Pepper plant June 18th

Jalapeno pepper June 18th. It has a bloom right in the middle of the leaves at the top.

Pumpkin and Sugar Baby watermelon June 4th

Pumpkin, Watermelon, and Cauliflower June 18th

Crimson Sweet watermelon, which I am not sure if it is a hybrid or heirloom, was bought because my watermelon didnt look like it was going to make it. Now the sugar baby is bigger than he is! Is the Sugar Baby suppose to have the spots on the leaves like that? Oh and this is June 18th :)

Pole and bush beans June 4th

Pole and bush beans June 18th. I dont see much difference here but I have been harvesting beans off of them. Goooood eatin'!

Pole beans in the garden June 4th.

Pole Beans June 18th. For some reason, it is uploading a picture that I have turned already. Not sure why it keep showing it sideways!

Cucumber plant June 4th. Not a real good picture of how big it is

Cucumber plant June 18th

Onions June 18th SEEDS!! Are my onions still going to be ok with this flower or did they bolt and the onion tastes bad?

Sweet Potatoes June 4th

Sweet Potatoes June 18th AWESOME! Sweet potatoes are suppose to flower right?

The Miracle Box. This is a box that I built with some soil that a friend of mine used in her garden. She showed me how much lettuce she had and I couldn't believe how well it was growing. She said it was the soil but I thought that couldn't be possible. She brought me two bags of it and this is the box it went in. I call it the miracle box because 3 days after planting the bush beans, they germinated. I was stunned.

I dont have a full picture of the miracle box but I do have one that was focusing in on the bird houses on the ladder. Thanks Granny for the idea to do them!! Please excuse the back wall. I am trying very hard to fix that. 40 years of wear and tear :)

Another side of the bird houses on the ladder!

Radishes June 4th

Radishes and watermelon taking over June 18th. I had one radish already. Huge and WONDERFUL!! I tried radishes in containers and it just didnt work right. I guess not enough sun.

I didnt get real good pictures of this box probably because it was overflowing. No matter really. I have a BILLION pictures up this post already! LOL

Thanks for hanging in there until the end. Of course, the next ones wont be as long. There are even more pictures on my flickr account if you are a glutton for punishment. http://www.flickr.com/photos/7777815@N05/

HAPPY GARDENING! I love it myself!
